Description

Nothing says “holiday cheer” quite like a batch of soft, spiced Christmas cookies! These delightful treats are buttery, lightly spiced with warm holiday flavors, and topped with festive red and green sprinkles. Perfect for cookie exchanges, dessert platters, or simply cozying up with a cup of hot cocoa.

Ingredients

• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
• ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
• Red and green sugar sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

1. Preheat Your Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Cream the Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. This step is key to achieving soft cookies!
3. Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully mixed. Stir in the vanilla extract for that sweet, fragrant touch.
4. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. The spices give these cookies a holiday twist!
5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix until just combined—avoid overmixing to keep the cookies tender.
6. Shape the Dough
Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on ungreased baking sheets. Use the bottom of a glass to gently flatten each ball.
7. Decorate and Bake
Sprinkle each cookie with red and green sugar sprinkles for that festive look. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers stay soft.
8. Cool and Enjoy
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
